MYRRHA building

Location at the MOL site

Building location at the MOL site

The location of the XT-ADS machine (based on the MYRRHA DRAFT–2 design made available in 2005) is one of the items currently studied in the frame of the FP6 EUROTRANS integrated project. The corresponding task leader, Empresarios Aggrupados (EA, Spain) first listed the needed components and installed them on a virgin site. The SCK•CEN contribution to the task was installing those facilities on the technical site at Mol, where some axiliaries, buildings and other offices are already present.

 Building layout

We found one location (see Figure 1) on the site that is sufficiently large to host the most critical series of buildings, namely the combination in a straight line of the front end of the accelerator (purple colour, 80 m length, 60 m width), the accelerator tunnel (blue colour, 220 m length, 28 m width) and the reactor building for which we have taken the reference "MYRRHA DRAFT-2" building dimensions (green colour, 110 m length, 30 m width). The remaining buildings and facilities have then been arranged by the task leader (see Figure 2). An alternative exists on the same location with another distribution between the different buildings, but the one presented on this page is the most favourable one. Indeed, the reactor building (green colour), which needs to go partially underground, is far enough from existing buildings.
