Heat deposition

 heat depostion 1

Within the radial space limitations put by the sub-critical core, we intend to deliver the 2.5 mA protons in form of a pencil beam, scanning the available surface inside the 70 mm nozzle I.D. in such a way that it best matches the recirculation pattern of the free surface and according provisions are foreseen in the ion optics of the accelerator. The axial energy deposition profile is determined by the proton energy and for 600 MeV consists of a flat plateau ending with a Bragg peak at a depth of 290 mm. The volume-integrated power deposition amounts to 61,4 % of the beam power, i.e. 0.925 MW for a volume of less than 0,5 liters. The proton current density exceeds 200 μA/cm2 which is incompatible with window designs attempted so far.
